The Drill looks for a "*", that could be a VXD file or a Key referring to the Bios and Root Keys in the Registry, or a wildcard file extension , and so on and so forth with each character it reads. It then looks for the file, path, Registry Key, and any pointers to other Registry Keys , etc. to see if it exists.

Let's say your current Windows Registry is corrupt and you just have a backup that is dated two years ago. Open Registry Drill and have it load your backup file and have the Drill make you a repair file.

If a line contains the character "." and ":" and "{", it will search for Class, TypeLib, Filter, Interface Keys, and other Keys. It will as well search for Catroot, files, paths, URLs, version numbers, and time. It then searches it's database for known entries and then goes through a process of determining whether or not the entry is valid and does this line point to another Key.
