HardLink ShellExtension 2.8.0.5
A utility for the creation of HardLinks, Junctions, and SymbolicLinks
The NTFS filesystem of NT4/W2K/WXP/WXP64 supports HardLink functionality, but HardLinks can just be made via the POSIX command ln, that is shipped with the Windows resourcekit. Even if with POSIX commands, HardLinks can just be made via the command prompt, that is a kind of a mess for many files.
The Link Shell Extension is a free and useful utility that can implement an extension to the Windows shell explorer, so that HardLinks, Junctions, and SymbolicLinks is comfortably made via right mouse click on a selection of one or multiple files.
Limitations of this software
- Junctions can just be made within one NTFS volumes, and can not span accross NTFS volumes.
- Junctions can just be made on NTFS volumes, under W2K/WXP.
- HardLinks can just be made on local NTFS volumes.
- HardLinks can just be made on *fixed* NTFS volumes.
- HardLinks can just be made within one NTFS volumes, and can not span accross NTFS volumes.
- HardLinks can just be made on NTFS volumes, under the supported plattforms.
- The Link Shell Extension can just be used with the supported plattforms.
· The Pick Link Source and Drop Hardlink of shell explorer are just visibile, if it is possible to create HardLinks/Junctions/SymbolicLinks. E.g: If you select a file on a FAT drive, press the right mouse button, you will not see the Pick Link Source context menue, because FAT file systems, don't support HardLinks/Junctions/SymbolicLinks. This as well happens, if you select source files on a network drive, or select a file as destination, and so on.
Wha
What's new in this release
- Some bug fixes for NT4
- Hardlink 'cross drive drops' are now not possible anymore
- LSE now forbids the creation of 'loops', when seting up a junction or hardlink clone
- Support of creation and deletion of Volume Mountpoints. Unfortunately this doesn't work under Vista
- Junctions have a Vista compliant overlay icon in many resolutions
- Hardlinks show up with a small overlay icon. This icon will change for Vista compliancy, but at least it is here now.
· Lots of usability fixes...
